How to Personalize a Mac OS X Desktop

If you own a Mac and want to distinguish it from other models, you can personalize your desktop. Choose backgrounds, screensavers and other preferences for the OS X desktop and customize your computer to answer your needs.

      Customize the Mac OS X desktop through "System Preferences." Look on your dock for the light switch icon with a silver apple on it. Click it to bring up the System Preferences screen or access System Preferences from the menu bar.

      Go to the desktop personalization page by clicking on "Desktop" under the "Personal" heading. Note the options for personalizing your desktop

      Set up a favorite photo for your desktop by finding the photo in the appropriate folder. Go to the pull down menu to choose the right folder.

      Rotate desktop photos by placing a check mark next to "Change Picture." A menu allows you to set up the frequency with which photos change. You can also shuffle photos by checking "Random Order."

      Personalize your Mac OS X with your choice of screensavers. Click the screensaver tab under the Personal heading. The left-hand column offers screensaver choices, or you can use one of your photos or album art from your iTunes library.

      Test the screensaver in the Preview screen. Make adjustments until it appears how and when you want it to.
