How to Make a Bottle Watering Can
Anyone who likes to garden knows it takes a lot of watering to keep flowers and vegetables flourishing. When watering requires a lighter touch than the spray from a garden hose, you can use a watering can that you recycle from a bottle or milk carton. With this homemade watering can you can design watering patterns to suit the specific needs for your plants.
Things You'll Need
- Gallon milk carton with a handle
- Permanent marker
- Pliers or vise grips
- Finishing nail
- Candle

1
Rinse the milk carton and remove the labels. You may need to let the cartons soak overnight in soapy water to loosen the labels.
-
2
Mark a pattern for holes in the neck of the milk bottle opposite the handle. Make at least 25 to 30 marks. Arrange them in a circular, square or straight line pattern, or you can randomly draw dots in a grouping no more than 3 inches in diameter.

3
Hold the finishing nail in the pliers or vise grips. Put the tip of the nail in the center of a candle flame.
-
4
Poke the nail through the milk bottle while the nail is hot. Wiggle it to get it out before the nail cools. Repeat this process until you have poked holes in all of your markings. Make more holes if you need to.
-
5
Fill the milk carton with water to just below the holes. Take it to your garden. Hold the handle of your new watering can and tip it until the water runs out the holes and onto your plants.
