How to Heelflip Boardslide on a Skateboard

Doing a heelflip is a cool trick for any skateboarder. It starts out like an Ollie, but then the board flips over sideways, rather than end to end. Like an Ollie, you have to make sure you land properly on the bolts. Adding a boardslide where you slide your board along a rail, now that’s magic.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with a heel flip. Pop the nose of the board up by sliding your front foot off as you step on the tail with your back foot. As you slide that front foot forward, do it at an angle so that the heel of your foot goes off the side of the board.

  2. Step 2

Lift up your back foot, allowing the board to flip over beneath you. Catch the board before it flips over too many times and land with both feet on the bolts.

  3. Step 3

Add a boardslide. Approach the object on which you wish to boardslide but do a huge heelflip instead of an Ollie to start the trick. Spin your board as soon as you finish the heelflip so you land on the rail, with your skateboard straddling it. You need strong forward momentum when you do this trick so that after you heelflip onto the rail, you still have enough oomph to slide your board down the rail and off.

  4. Step 4

Pop that board hard as you execute the heelflip broadslide. One of the biggest challenges is getting enough height to land on the rail. Practicing heelflips by themselves helps, because it allows you to focus on the most challenging part of the trick. Whatever you do, wear your helmet.
