Everyone has jeans in their closet that they don’t wear. If you have a pair that fits well through the waist and seat, but that are too short, turn them into a pair of Bermuda shorts. This is a quick and stylish way to recycle denim.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Slip into the jeans. Stand in front of a full-length mirror. Determine where you want to cut the bottom for the shorts and whether you want frayed or sewn hems. If you opt for sewn, allow an extra inch for length.

  2. Step 2

Mark the jeans where you intend to cut them and take them off. Cut both legs the same length. Put the jeans back on to make sure everything is the correct length.

  3. Step 3

Fray the edges of the denim if that's the look you want. You can use straight pins to pull loose threads from the cut edge of the denim shorts.

  4. Step 4

Edge-finish the hem with a zigzag stitch if you are turning up the hem for a finished look. Or you can turn the hem ¼ inch and straight stitch it to create the edge finish.

  5. Step 5

Turn the hem about ½ to ¾ inch and pin it in place. Sew the hem in place using a straight stitch with the sewing machine. You can also perform this step by hand.
