Lavasoft's Ad-Aware is a spyware removal kit that comes with a number of handy features, including the ability to schedule routine spyware scans. With this feature, you'll no longer have to continually manually check your computer for new spyware.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Download either the Plus or Professional version of Ad-Aware and install it to your hard drive. The free version doesn't let you schedule scans in advance.
Step2
Double-click the Ad-Aware desktop icon to run the program. The icon's graphic shows a globe with a large capital letter "A" written across its face.
Step3
Open the "Scan" panel by clicking its tab on the left side of the main Ad-Aware interface.
Step4
Initiate the Task Scheduler by clicking the "Scheduler" link beneath in the "Scan" tab.
Step5
Choose the type of scan you want Ad-Aware to use when checking your computer. If you plan on scanning every week, the Smart Scan should work fine. If it's once a month, go with the Full Scan.
Step6
Select how often and at what time of day you want Ad-Aware to perform your chosen scan. If you leave your system on a night, choose sometime during the early morning.
Step7
Click "Add" to confirm the scheduled task.

Tips & Warnings

  • Schedule scans for times you won't be using your computer to avoid resource over-consumption and system bog-downs.
  • Keep your spyware definitions updated by checking the "Automatic Updates" option in the main control panel.
