How to Make a Herbal Chest Rub

A homemade herbal chest rub that you blend in your own kitchen will be completely chemical-free and made from all natural ingredients. Rub some on your chest before bedtime to loosen congestion and ease discomfort caused by the common cold.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Eucalyptus essential oil
  • Wintergreen essential oil
  • Camphor essential oil
  • Thyme essential oil
  • Olive oil or sweet almond oil
  • Beeswax
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Chamomile essential oil
  • Sweet almond oil or extra-virgin olive oil
  • Small glass container with tightly-fitting lid

Eucalyptus Chest Rub

Step1
Put the olive oil or sweet almond oil in a small saucepan. Add the beeswax and heat the mixture on low just until the beeswax is melted.
Step2
Remove the mixture from the heat and add the eucalyptus essential oil, wintergreen essential oil, camphor essential oil and thyme essential oil. Stir until the oils are completely blended.
Step3
Allow the mixture to cool before using, and then put it in a sealed container. Store the eucalyptus chest rub in a cool, dark place.
Step4
Rub a small amount of eucalyptus chest rub on your chest as needed for coughs and congestion.

Lavender Chest Rub

Step1
Combine the lavender essential oil, chamomile essential oil and sweet almond oil or extra-virgin olive oil in a small glass container with a tightly-fitting lid.
Step2
Label the glass container and store it in a cool, dark place.
Step3
Rub the lavender chest rub on your chest before bedtime to relieve congestion.
