How to Paint on Foil

Paint on foil and the effect will be a shimmery, glowing painting that will surprising and amaze you. This is a great way for kids to have fun and develop their artistic talents. This project is best for children at least six years old, although younger children can paint on foil with a bit of adult assistance.

Things You'll Need

• Cardboard or tag board
• Heavy duty aluminum foil
• Coloring book
• Black permanent markers
• Tempera paint
• Paintbrushes
• Dull pencil

Instructions

1. Tear off a piece of aluminum foil large enough to cover one side of a piece of cardboard or tag board plus a little extra. Wrap the cardboard like a present and secure the foil on the back with scotch tape.

2. Choose a simple picture from the coloring book. Remove it from the book and lay it on top of the aluminum foil.

3. Hold the coloring book page in place and trace the drawing with a dull pencil. Press down firmly enough to etch the lines into the foil.

4. Remove the coloring book page and draw over the design on the foil with black permanent marker.

5. Paint the drawing on the aluminum foil with a dry brush and tempera paint, applying the paint in a fairly heavy layer.

6. Mat the picture or hang it up as is.

Tips & Warnings

• Older kids can draw their own picture instead of using a coloring book page. Just be sure it has very simple lines and trace the picture onto the foil, as described above.
