The best way to get proficient in tricks on the snowboard is to practice flat and then take it to the hill. Once you get proficient, the slope helps you get more air. You can learn to do either a flatground frontside or backside 180 turn on the snowboard on if you know the steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Realize that the pivot on the turn varies depending on whether you're regular or goofy-footed. When a regular-footer turns to the right, he uses the backside to turn. The backside is a left turn for the goofy-footer.
Step2
Remain flat until you're ready to do the turn. Squat slightly so you can get a little air.
Step3
Twist your body slightly to in the opposite direction to get some momentum. You spring up at the same time you turn. The board should lift off the ground to make the lower body and board turn complete. Both the backside and frontside 180 are done basically the same way on the snowboard. The difference is pressure point and the end of the board that goes on the outside of the turn.
Step4
Spring off the tip of your toes as you spin and straighten your legs. Pull your legs back up after you are in the air so you can cushion the landing.
Step5
Continue in the new direction. Practice flatside backside and frontside 180 turns on the snowboard until you become proficient and then head for the hill.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you go for the backside turn, keep your weight on the tip of the snowboard and let the back end pivot on the outside. If you go frontside, the weight rests on the back of the board and the front of the board makes the pivot on the outside of the circle.
  • Remember that the flatground is a almost level piece of land with no obstructions or obstacles in the way.
  • Regular-footed is right footed and goofy-footed are left-handed and footed people.
  • Always stay within your skill level and increase slightly. If you break something you'll be out for the whole season and that is no fun.
