How to Expand an ASP Baton

Law enforcement personnel prefer to carry the ASP Baton as a psychological and physical deterrent for intercepting deviants in the community. Private citizens also can carry it for self defense. The laws and training requirements vary by state. The ASP Baton is lightweight and expands quickly, even in the most chaotic situations.

Instructions

    • 1

Release the closure on the belt pouch and remove the ASP Baton with your dominate hand.

    • 2

Grasp the baton firmly by the handle, holding it at a safe distance to the side of your body.

    • 3

Flick your wrist in a strong, fluid motion, moving the tip away from the body to expand ASP Baton. The retaining clip within the tube releases the shaft at intervals, catering to specific needs in unique situations.

    • 4

Continue to snap your wrist to fully extend the baton. Shorter versions are lighter weight and take a more forceful flick to open.

Tips & Warnings

  • Individuals usually prefer the fully extended 16-inch model for self-defense, while law enforcement generally trains with the 26-inch baton.

  • Check with specific state laws to ensure legality of the ASP Baton. Batons are often considered a concealed weapon that requires completing one day training and certification prior to use. Register for classes which meet your individual state's regulations.
