A touch of yellow is known to add a sense of sunshine and warmth to any room or event. A yellow light, flashlight or lamp also provides the means to enhance plays or create entertainment. Here are two easy and fun ways to create a yellow light using a flashlight or lamp.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lamp with lamp shade
  • Yellow fabric
  • Pencil, large piece of paper and ruler
  • Scissors
  • Pen or fabric marker
  • Fabric adhesive
  • Chip clips or clothes pins
  • Lamp shade trim

    Yellow Flashlight

  1. Step 1

Hold the flashlight in your dominant hand (the hand that you use to write).

  2. Step 2

Pick up the plastic yellow toy or paper with your other hand, and place it over the flashlight. If you are using yellow plastic wrap, completely cover the top of the flashlight, and tape the wrap to the flashlight to free up one hand.

  3. Step 3

Click on the flashlight and you have a yellow light.

  4. Yellow Lamp

  5. Step 1

Buy a lamp shade and lamp to match your decor, and choose yellow fabric to match. Make sure that the fabric is larger than the lamp shade.

  6. Step 2

Remove the lamp shade from the lamp. With your pencil, trace the sides of the lamp shade (if angled) or the conical shape of the shade on to your paper.

  7. Step 3

Measure a half inch away from the outline with your ruler and make a dot. Repeat this process along the entire shape of the outline. This process provides an extra 1/2 of material as a buffer against mistakes and for an overlap in Step 5.

  8. Step 4

Cut out the shape of the shade along the dots and place it flat against the back of your yellow fabric. With your pen, trace the shape onto the fabric, or mark the fabric with a dot every inch along the outline. Cut out the lamp shade shape.

  9. Step 5

Rub or brush fabric adhesive onto the back section of the outside of your lamp shade. Carefully place the fabric against the glued surface with the side edge vertical and straight. Use the edge of your ruler to press the fabric firmly to the surface and to remove any bubbles. Repeat until entire shade is covered.

  10. Step 6

Glue the remaining 1/2 inch of vertical side fabric to the covered shade beneath it. Tuck and glue a small amount of the 1/2 of remaining fabric to the inside top and bottom of the shade. Hold in place with chip clips or clothespins. Allow to completely dry.

  11. Step 7

Trim away all excess fabric and strings. Glue lamp shade trim to inside of shade to cover scissor marks. Attach shade to lamp and turn on.

Tips & Warnings
  • An easy way to trace a conical shape lamp shade is to hold your pencil along the edge of the shade and gently roll the shade along the paper. Tape the paper to a flat surface before rolling the shade across it so that it doesn't move while tracing the outline.
