How to Clean a Nostril While Wearing a Nose Ring

Nose rings are becoming commonplace and acceptable in society today. One of the hazards of having a nose ring is successfully cleaning the nostril while not disturbing the new nose ring. Following the good hygiene tips below will help prevent painful infections and will aid new piercings in healing completely.

Instructions

1. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water to remove harmful bacteria that could cause severe infections.

2. Mix some water and sea salt in a small container. Apply the mixture to the area around your piercing with a cotton swab. Make sure to swab both the inside and outside of the nostril. Rotate your nose ring to allow cleansing mixture to be applied to the middle regions of the piercing.

3. Repeat the cleansing process three times a day for up to twelve weeks. The cleansing routine must be followed until the piercing is completely healed.

4. Monitor pierced area for pus or a crusty build up which could be signs that infection may be setting in. Soften crusty areas with the mixture from Step 1. Soak the crusty spots for a few minutes. The crust should fall off. Reapply each time area looks crusty or red from infection.

5. Avoid excessive drainage during cold season by taking an over-the-counter antihistamine. Do not use nasal sprays unless they only contain saline.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not attempt to remove nose ring during the healing period. The piercing hole is able to close up within a day if left unattended.

• Never insert fingers into the nostril. Bacteria thriving underneath the fingernail will transfer into the nostril increasing the chance for infection.
