How to Compose a Song on the Accordion

Composing a song on the accordion is a great way to spend some time. Positioning of the fingers is really very simple. Your right hand fingers play the treble notes, also called the keyboarder. Your left hand fingers operate the bass notes and the chords. Composing a song on this instrument is a good outlet and lets you explore your creative side.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Select the genre of music that you want to play on your accordion. There are many to choose from. Using a small notebook, start copying down everything that you do.

  2. Step 2

    Come up with a beat that you find most interesting and appealing to you. Try two or three beats before selecting the one that you will use.

  3. Step 3

    Decide on two or three bass chords, using your left handed fingers, that you find enjoyable to the ear and alternate playing them on your accordion

  4. Step 4

    Follow a pattern using your chords and your treble notes and the beat that you have selected in Steps 2 and 3.

  5. Step 5

    Write your lyrics to go with your beat and chords. Find just the right words to fit the rhythmic pattern that you have designed.

  • Be patient and just enjoy your music experience. You cannot rush through a good composition. It takes time and practice.
