Once you manage to make your guitar sing exactly like you want it, it's time to add to the amplifier and gizmos. You can add a lot different types of sounds to your guitar but you always have to remember what you want the sound to be when you buy guitar effects.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
See if you want to modify the pitch with the guitar effect. You can buy a capo for a guitar effect for a nominal sum of money. The capo is a strapped bar that straps across the neck to change the key so you can keep fingering position. You can also use a pitch shifter that uses a pedal.
Step2
Continue to change the pitch with an Octaver that harmonizes with you or a chorus. The chorus splits your signal in two and gives a more dynamic effect. When you buy a guitar effect you have so many to choose from you need to know what you use the most.
Step3
Go for some heavy metal distortion. Those guitar effects that give the distortion are overdrive or overdrive crunch, fuzz, Hi-gain, power-tube pedal or an attenuator. The fuzz is great for 60's songs. Overdrive is more mellow than the crunch. Hi-gain is the classic heavy metal effect. Power tube pedals and attenuator can be operated independently from the volume.
Step4
Buy a filtering effect. Use a wah-wah pedal for the distinct sound it produces or try an equalizer that gives the whole band the right amount of volume. Get a phase shifter to duplicate yourself out of sync.
Step5
Check out the volume effects. When you buy guitar effects there are so many that you could fill a room. If you want total control of the volume of a single note or riff, buy a volume pedal.
Step6
Combine multiple effects. Check out some of the new boxes that contain multi-effects pedals. You can get some that you can preset, program and adjust. Find a pedal bar that gives the best of the sounds with the most versatility when you buy guitar effects.
Step7
Hunt for effects that have a rating. Happy customers are not as quick to give advice as unhappy ones. Before you buy guitar effects check out the dependability, quality of tone and versatility of the effect.
