Things You'll Need:
- Computer with Ubuntu installed
-
Step 1
Download the .deb package for Opera. Find the package on the Opera website or on the Ubuntu website under "Support." The system begins to automatically install the package while it's downloading.
-
Step 2
Open Opera. Choose the "Run Now" button during the install. Opera assumes you have restrictions on your computer, but runs through the Flash program.
-
Step 3
Click the "Tools" tab and choose "Preferences." Find the "Advanced" tab and select it. Click on "Content."
-
Step 4
Choose the "Enable Java" option. A window appears and asks you to input a Java path.
-
Step 5
Find the Java path that looks similar to "/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.03/jre/lib/i386" or "/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.03/jre/lib/amd64." These are the most common paths when Ubuntu installs Java. Type the Java path into the box. To find the path, locate the"jvm" file in Ubuntu. Find the latest version and click on "Properties."
-
Step 6
Click on the path once it is entered. This validates that the path is correct.
-
Step 7
Click "OK." Save the changes. Opera is now ready to run in Ubuntu 7.10 or Gutsy Gibbon.
