The style and the color of your hair is part of your first impression with people. Very few women keep the natural color of their hair. Each hair color has different yet similar hair pigmentation separating blond-haired people from brunettes, and red heads from those with earth black hair color. As people grow older hair pigmentation leaves and the dreaded gray hair becomes unavoidable.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Latex gloves
  • Brown hair dye
  • Black hair dye
  • Sealer or conditioner for color treated hair
  1. Step 1

Purchase a semi-permanent hair color. Semi-permanent hair color lasts approximately 28 days.

  2. Step 2

Search for a product that does not contain ammonia. Ammonia strips the nutrients from your hair. Blond-haired people often have hidden gray that is difficult to cover with hair color.

  3. Step 3

Determine if you need help. If this is your first time coloring your hair so drastically, then you will want to ask a friend to help.

  4. Step 4

Read the directions before you start. It is important to follow the directions so all the roots are covered and sections of hair aren’t missed.

  5. Step 5

Assess the way your hair grows on your head. Start at the front and work back. Do your sides and don’t forget to do underneath the back of your hair on the neck area.

  6. Step 6

Start with the brown hair color first. Skip any conditioner or sealer at this point. Remember you have to use the black dye next.

  7. Step 7

Run the black dye bottle over the spots you just put the brown in exactly the same way. You don’t want to miss any part of your hair.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is important to always wear gloves when working with a dark hair dye. Your cuticles and fingernails will soak up the dye just like your hair
  • Wear a hat when you are outside—the sun tends to fade color treated hair.
  • If you have damaged hair, coloring it will only damage it further.
  • Protect your bathroom or wherever you are going to color your hair. Hair color stains and damages furniture.

on 10/31/2009 to keep dark dye from dying your skin, apply baby oil gel to the skin around your hairline, behind and on your ears, the back of your neck and shoulders, your hands under the gloves and your arms above the glove line. T oremove any light staining, after a warm shower/bath use rubbing alcohol (lightly and gently, too much scrubbing with alcohol will cause your skin to become red and irritated). By the end of your next shower or bath any residual dye on your skin should be gone.
