Step 1
Launch AppleWorks 6 by clicking on the AppleWorks icon on the Dock. Alternatively, launch the program from the hard drive by clicking "Applications." Click "AppleWorks" then double-click on the AppleWorks 6 icon. The Starting Points screen appears.

Open AppleWorks 6 Presentation by clicking "Presentation" from the Starting Points screen. AppleWorks 6 Presentation will open with a Menu bar, Button bar, Tool bar, Document window and Controls window. The bottom of the Document window indicates you're on Slide 1 of 1. A thumbnail of slide 1 appears in the Slide tab of the Controls window.

Click "Options," then "Edit Background." The word "Background" now appears in the bottom of the Document window.Use this option to set the background for all slides in the presentation.

Select the Fill formatting button, which is the top rectangle to the left of the palettes. Then, select the Rectangle tool, which is the rectangle under the selection arrow in the tool bar.

Notice the four patterned boxes at the bottom of the tool bar. These are your palettes. Starting at the top left corner, draw a rectangle over the slide. Choose a color, pattern, wallpaper or gradient from one of the palettes. Click the slide thumbnail in the Controls window. All slides will have this background.

Complete Steps 1 and 2 from Section 1 above.

Click on the tab with the star in the Controls window. The bottom of the Document window indicates you are on Slide Master 1 of 1.

Select the Fill formatting button (top rectangle to the left of the palettes). Select the Rectangle tool, which is the rectangle under the selection arrow in the tool bar. Starting at the top left corner, draw a rectangle over the slide. Choose a color, pattern, wallpaper or gradient from one of the palettes.

Click "Untitled" in the Master Slide thumbnail of the Controls window. Name Master Slide 1.

Add a Master slide by clicking on the + button in the Master Slide tab of the Controls window. A new thumbnail appears. The bottom of the Document window indicates you're on Slide Master 2 of 2.

Follow Step 3 in this section to create a background. Click "Untitled" in the second thumbnail on the Controls menu and name Master Slide 2. Continue this process until you've completed all of your master slide designs.

Step 7
Highlight the Master Slide you want to use to create the first slide in your presentation. Click the Slide Tab in the Controls window. Slide 1 of 1 will have the background of the Master you chose.
