Step 1
Watch dirt bike racing to better learn the sport. You can watch racing either on television or in person at a local dirt bike racing track. Check with your friends and family members to see if they know when dirt bike racing takes place, and read the local newspaper for dates and times of races.
-
Step 2
Make contact with a female dirt bike racer. While in attendance at a race, speak to drivers to ask if they know a female who races. Gain knowledge from her about the positives and negatives that go along with being a woman dirt bike racer.
-
Step 3
Locate a dirt bike for your use. As you're just starting out, you may not want to spend the money to buy your own dirt bike, so consider renting or borrowing one from a racer that may have more than one.
-
Step 4
Purchase safety equipment: helmet, eye shields or goggles, knee and elbow pads, as well as a fireproof suit. Visit a motocross apparel retail store for advice on the products available and ask for recommendations. Safety-apparel items need to fit your body, so try on each item before you buy it.
-
Step 5
Set up lessons with a dirt bike racing trainer. Ask your new racing "family" where to learn the basics of dirt bike racing. Consider contacting the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) to see if they offer training classes in your area.
-
Step 6
Build a dirt bike racing team. You're not only going to need support, but you're going to need help when it comes to keeping your dirt bike in working order on race night.
-
Step 7
Register for your first dirt bike race. Look for a "beginners" race to start your racing career.
