How to Complete Super Mario Galaxy

To complete Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii, you'll need to collect all of the 120 Power Stars hidden throughout the different galaxies. This is quite a chore, but with a little guidance and a lot of patience you'll be able to succeed.

Instructions

    • 1

Spend time getting acclimated to Super Mario Galaxy's controls before venturing into the outer galaxies. The Observatory's a good place to practice long jumps, triple jumps and ground pounds before taking your skills to Bowser's troops.

    • 2

Follow a Super Mario Galaxy game guide's instructions, such as "Super Mario Galaxy: Prima Official Game Guide," to locate all of the "normal" Power Stars. These exclude the final 15 Purple Power Stars, which are only attainable after beating Bowser.

    • 3

Beat Bowser. Like any classic Nintendo boss, Bowser goes through three phase changes before finally surrendering to Mario. Use your spin attack while avoiding his fire breath and energy beams to take him down.

    • 4

Make your way back to the Main Observatory and snoop around the different rooms. When you find a galaxy with a Purple Comet in it, hop in and collect the Purple Coins.

    • 5

Collect all 120 Power Stars, then fight Bowser again. After succeeding, the game rewards you by unlocking Luigi as a playable character.

    • 6

Complete all of the galaxies using Luigi, including the final fight with Bowser.

    • 7

Head to the Green Trial Planet and enter the previously-hidden Grand Finale Galaxy. Collect all of the Purple Coins and you'll get the final, 121st Power Star.
