Knowing how to attach a new post to an earring will save you time and money. It is a repair you can do yourself, saving you the expense of going to a professional jeweler. So, don't throw your earrings away if a post breaks off. Instead, just follow these steps to fix it.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tweezers
  • Craft glue
  • New post
  1. Step 1

Take your earring with you to a craft store and find a post that most closely matches the post that was on your earring. Buy the new post.

  2. Step 2

Use tweezers to remove any leftover pieces of the old post from the back of your earring.

  3. Step 3

Place your earring on a flat surface. Work in a well lit area so you can see what you are doing.

  4. Step 4

Dab a bit of your glue to one end of the new post. Use glue made for use on non-porous materials.

  5. Step 5

Center the post on the back of your earring. If the earring is part of a set, look at the back of the other earring to see where to attach the post. Hold the new post in the same position on the earring you are repairing.

  6. Step 6

Press the end of the post with the glue on it to the back of the earring.

  7. Step 7

Hold the new post in place for several minutes until the glue dries.

  8. Step 8

Use a self-adhesive earring post for quick repairs. You can also use these products to convert clip-on earrings to post style earrings.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a professional jeweler to repair fragile or expensive jewelry.
  • For sensitive ears, use real gold, silver or hypoallergenic posts.
