1
Understand the difference between RoIP and VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol.) In RoIP, a communication device such as a computer, telephone or pda can be used to receive and transmit communication to a radio. The radio offers users the ability to scan stations, channel switch or use the "push to talk" feature. In VoIP, communication is limited to telephones.
-
2
Connect your communication devices to a base station (the central connection between the wireless devices and the main system) and join the base station to an IP gateway. Through the Internet, software is used to code the different communication devices to make them work together. For example, a dispatcher on radio can contact an ambulance that uses a computer system and an officer who uses a telephone simultaneously and all can communicate in real time.

3
Test your RoIP system once established by sending users out with various communication devices (pda, laptop computer or telephone) to ensure clear communication with the radio.
-
4
Manage your RoIP network. Establish talk groups and invite members, delete members and impose limitations on individual members such as "listen only" status.
