Using bronzer is a great way to give yourself a healthy glow. It can light up your whole face. But while mineral makeup companies generally offer a wide range of foundation colors, there are often only a few choices of bronzers. If none of them suit your complexion, don't settle--mix your own.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mineral foundation, bronzer, blush and eye shadow samples
  • A good light source
  1. Step 1

Go to a store or salon like Sephora or Aveda that has a wide range of mineral makeup testers, or order samples from your online supplier. If there's no mention of low- or no-cost samples on your supplier's website, ask about them.

  2. Step 2

Find mineral powder products in shades that are deeper than your natural skin tone but have the same undertone color--generally pink or yellow.

  3. Step 3

Pick a base color for your bronzer with a hint of shimmer for more glow. Look at eye shadows as well as other powders. A shimmery bronze may be good if you have yellow undertones, while a shimmery copper will work for some people with pink undertones.

  4. Step 4

Apply potential base colors to the areas of your face where bronzer goes--cheeks, temples, forehead, upper bridge of nose and chin. Choose the color that blends well with your skin and looks natural, not orangy or ashy.

  5. Step 5

Mix a little coral, red or rose blusher with your brown base color for extra pop. It will take some experimentation to find the right color and proportion.

  6. Step 6

Buy the best colors to mix at home yourself or request a custom formulation from your retailer made to your specifications. Especially in the summer months, bronzer can be one of the most important products or even the only product you need, so never settle for one that doesn't do its best for you!

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose a strong blush color to mix into your bronzer formula or it won't show up well.
  • Wait a few minutes after applying mineral makeup before determining if it's a good shade for you. Unlike other types of makeup, it warms up and blends with the natural oils of your skin to achieve its final shade.
