ByOwner is a popular online real estate resource for both buyers and sellers that allows users to save thousands of dollars in real estate commissions by completing transactions directly. ByOwner offers a complete set of tools to sellers looking to list a home. It provides guidance for the entire process of marketing and selling your house.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Select your state and telephone area code from the list provided on the "List Now" page (see Resources below). Pricing for sales packages varies according to the state and area in which you live, but it is always broken down into two options—a basic customizable package and a deluxe, all-inclusive package.
Step2
List your home using the customizable "Option A." For about $250, depending on where you live, you'll get ByOwner's "list until sold" guarantee, the ability to upload up to a half-dozen pictures, as well as a 10 percent discount if you complete your order online. You can also choose to add bells and whistles to your package for a small upgrade charge, including six yard signs, access to a 1-800 voice mailbox so prospective buyers can call you toll-free and a ByOwner web slide show.
Step3
Use the ByOwner slide show to present your home in an attractive light to prospective buyers. It's an upgrade well worth considering, as it will showcase your home's features in up to 24 pictures. You can even check out a sample online (see Resources below).
Step4
Choose the specially priced Option B package, which is all-inclusive and costs about $100 more than the Option A package in most areas. For your money, you get all the features of the Option A package, all the Option A upgrades and exposure on half a dozen popular real estate search portals. Your property will be featured on the Google, Oodle, For Sale By Owner, Zillow.com, ByOwner MLS and FSBO networks.
Step5
Take advantage of ByOwner's other useful features, including products that let you screen prospective buyers to see if they are qualified for a mortgage. ByOwner also offers magazine listings for home sellers, yard and directional "For Sale" signs and 24/7 telephone customer support.
Step6
Use the site's Pic-A-Coach service to get expert home-selling advice from real estate professionals (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also locate open houses in your area, find vacant land to buy and search for commercial or rental properties at ByOwner.
  • ByOwner is not an agency or a brokerage and represents neither buyer nor seller. Its sole function is to provide a real estate advertising platform where buyers and sellers can meet to transact business. It is not responsible for the end result of any transaction made as a result of the exposure the site provides.
