In the last eight years of the twentieth century, America had a president who was well liked, not only by his constituents, but by the other world leaders as well. He was so well liked that even after a scandal had marred his presidency, his approval rating when he left office was 65 percent. Of course, the president in question is Bill Clinton and many people have wondered how he was so well liked by just about everyone, including some Republicans. Being liked like Bill Clinton is actually less dependent on some nebulous inner charisma, and more dependent on how you relates to those around you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Be kind to people. This is one of the most basic methods of getting people to like you as they would like Bill Clinton. As numerous fundraisers and meet-and-greets have demonstrated in the 1990s and again in 2008, Bill Clinton has a genuine smile for the people he meets and projects a sense that he is really happy to meet them.
Step2
Make an effort to remember details about people. Bill Clinton shines on an individual basis, because he can remember conversations he had with the English Prime Minister or with one of his dedicated staffers and bring up details from those conversations later. Remember some details about the people with whom you talk and ask them about those details later, as it will make the other person feel good that you remembered something about them.
Step3
Go out of your way to connect with people, as Bill Clinton did when he played the saxophone on late night television. Not only was this a good photo opportunity, it was also a masterful way for Bill Clinton to step away from his stuffy proper image and connect with younger voters, many of whom were only slightly aware that a president was allowed to do something cool. The best way to follow Bill Clinton's example is to show people who know you something about you that they consider important.
Step4
Understand different points of view, as Bill Clinton demonstrated he could do when he worked with the Republican majority that occupied Congress after 1994, meeting with the Speaker of the House and the Senate majority leader. Talk with people who hold different points of view and try to figure out why the believe what they believe. This may not mean that you automatically agree with them, but the other person will like the fact that you took the time to understand his views.
Step5
Be confident in yourself and your abilities. Throughout Bill Clinton's career, he has always been confident in himself, a trait that makes people feel reassured by him, and consequently like him more. Do the same for yourself by liking who you are and the things you can do that no one else has the same mix of personality and talent to accomplish.
