Things You'll Need:
- Brightly colored paper
- Markers
- Photos of your pet
-
Step 1
Make fliers to advertise a missing pet. Use standard-size paper in bright colors and either print in block letters or write clearly with permanent marker. Keep the writing on the poster to a minimum. Besides the word "lost," include a few characteristics of the animal, the area where the animal was last seen and a phone number where you can be contacted.
-
Step 2
Ask the local pet store owner or manager if he has a designated area in which you can post the flier or advertise your message. Many pet stores have bulletin boards near the entrances where people can post fliers, notices and other information. If nothing official is available, ask if you can post your flier on the door, facing out, so even people who are walking by would be able to see it.
-
Step 3
Make smaller fliers to leave on the counter of the pet store. Include the same basic information that is on the large fliers. Make the original one on white paper and then photocopy two per page. Ask the employee to encourage people to take fliers with them after paying. It will make it easier to get in touch with you, as people are not likely to jot down your phone number from a large flier.
-
Step 4
Give your phone number to the employee or manager in charge, especially if you live in a small town or if the pet store is the only one in the area. This will increase your chances of being contacted if somebody sees your missing pet.
-
Step 5
Contact several pet stores, not only the one closest to you. Many people associated with rescue organizations and shelters visit pet stores. In the chance that your missing pet was picked up as a stray by somebody, you are more likely to locate him if you spread the word.
