Replace Front Wheel Bearings on a Car

Changing wheel bearings can be done quite easily on all rear wheel drive american made cars and light trucks

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • lug wrench,jack and stands, wheel chock,pliers,side cutting pliers and an adjustable wrench or a socket set that has large sockets ( really not necessary to go out and purchase although some auto stor
  1. Step 1

    First loosen the lug nuts while vehicle is on the ground
    After wheels are slightly loose jack the vehicle in the air and chock the back wheels

  2. Step 2

    Remove the lug nuts and the wheels. Now remove the caliper

  3. Step 3

    Remove the cap on the rotor and the cotter pin in front of the lock nut

  4. Step 4

    Remove the rotor and place on a board with the rear facing down.

  5. Step 5

    An easy way to remove the rear bearing and seal is to put the nut onto the spindle whithout the rotor in place, Now place the rotor over the nut and with a slight down ward tilt pull hard on the rotor. This will remove the bearing and seal from the back of the rotor

  6. Step 6

    Take all bearings to the auto parts store you will have to match the numbers up

  7. Step 7

    In order to in stall the bearings you will need to pack the bearings with greese MAKE SURE IT IS FRONT BEARING GREESE!!

  8. Step 8

    Install the rear bearing and seal and tap the seal into place with a light even tap all around the seal housing

  9. Step 9

    Install rotor in reverse of removal, Tighten front nut and back off a quarter of a turn. Now install a new cotter pin and the cap,caliper and wheel.

    Lower vehicle and tighten the wheels
