Use Carrots as a Companion Plant

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Carrot seedlings or seeds
  • A garden or planting area
  1. Step 1

Sow your carrot seeds in rows about 1 foot apart, and when they are about 2-inches high, thin the seedlings to about 1-inch apart, then in about 4 weeks, thin again to about 4-inches apart. You can sow new seeds about every 3 weeks throughout the growing season for a continuous crop.

  2. Step 2

Carrots go with a variety of foods, and the same is true in the garden! Plant your carrots near peas, sage, or radishes to improve the carrots' flavor. Plant carrots near leeks, onions, or rosemary to help repel root maggot flies. In fact, carrots do well with just about every other plant in your garden.

  3. Step 3

About the only things you have to keep away from your carrots are anise and dill, they can cause poor growth in carrots.

  4. Step 4

Carrots love full sun and loose soil for the best growth. They don't need much fertilizer, either.
