Things You'll Need:
- Cabbage plants or seeds
- A garden or planting area
-
Step 1
Plant cabbage as soon as your garden soil warms up from winter. You should plant cabbage plants about 12 to 18 inches apart so they can spread. You should pick your cabbage when the heads are full and round.
-
Step 2
Know that cabbage is a very good neighbor to many plants in the garden. Plant it near celery, onions, potatoes, tomatoes and lettuce. Tomato plants may help protect your cabbage from cabbage flea beetles and whiteflies.
-
Step 3
Consider that cabbage does have some enemies. Don't plant it near strawberries. Keep marigolds away from cabbage, too, because marigolds can actually attract cabbage flea beetles.
-
Step 4
Learn that cabbage loves well-drained, fertile soil and full sun. You should feed it monthly with compost or manure.
