Step 1
Stitch holders – These are a necessity if you do cable or other patterns that require you to set aside several stitches for a row or even for a few stitches. They can serve the same purpose as cable needles, but cable needles don't have a safety mechanism to keep the stitches on the needle, no matter what happens.
-
Step 2
Stitch and row counters – Just about every knitting pattern you use will have a particular number of rows that make up the pattern stitch. Using a row counter can help tremendously. One of the counters that hangs off your needle and allows you to turn the numbers manually is cheap, effective, and a must for any knitter. Keep several on hand if you like to work on more than one project at the same time.

Step 3
A good light – A good light is essential when you knit, especially if you're using a dark shade of yarn. Invest in a light with a magnifying glass if you have trouble working on your knitting at night.
-
Step 4
Point protectors – You can get away without using point protectors, but they are a great idea if you take your knitting on the go with you, or you have to put it down in the middle of a row. The point protectors will save your stitches and keep them on the needle safely and effectively.
-
Step 5
Ring markers – these are essential for just about every pattern you make. They let you know when you begin a row in the round, what row is a pattern row, and what stitches make up the pattern, edge, etc. Get ring markers in a variety of sizes to fit all your needles. To make sure they don't fall off your needles, try split ring markers.

Step 6
Choosing the right knitting accessories can make your knitting much more pleasant, and give you better results.
