Getting children to eat salad can be easy if you are creative. Try these great ideas for making a salad children will love.

From Quick Guide: Salad Recipes
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Add fruits and sugared nuts. Who said salads have to be all vegetables? Try adding strawberries and blueberries to a bag of mixed greens. A few sugared walnuts make a nice sweet treat. Let the salad sit for about 30 minutes and toss thoroughly. If you want to use a dressing, opt for something sweet like a Raspberry Vinaigrette.

  2. Step 2

Add fun seeds and nuts. Salads take on a whole new life when they are topped with kid-friendly favorites like peanuts or sunflower seeds. Crunchy granola can also make a nice addition.

  3. Step 3

Don't forget to vary the greens. Some children only like iceberg lettuce. Mix a small amount of other leaves into a base of their favorite greens. Gradually increase the proportions as their palate matures.

  4. Step 4

Chef salads always make the grade. Most children love salads topped with chopped ham, boiled eggs and cheese along with the other veggies.

  5. Step 5

Vary the toppings. Almost anything can be included in a salad. Take a look at your child's favorite healthy snacks. Add grated or shaved carrots, broccoli florets, bean sprouts, avocado, pomegranate seeds, radishes, cherry tomatoes. A little Parmesan cheese makes a wonderful topping as well.

  6. Step 6

Vary the dressing. Some children love creamy dressings, some love vinaigrettes and some like none at all. Let your child try a variety of dressings to find options they like.
