How to Clean Stainless Steel Cookware

Save

Because they are such utilitarian kitchen items, stainless steel cookware can accumulate some buildup of grease and food stains over time. Regular cleaning might not get all that buildup off, so on occasion you should take an extra step with a couple of common household items to get them looking like new again.

Things You'll Need

  • Vinegar
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Towel
  • Baking soda
  • Wooden spoon

Basic Cleaning

  • Pour enough vinegar in the sink to cover the cookware. Immerse the cookware in the vinegar and let it sit for 30 minutes.

  • Wash the cookware as normal with your regular dishwashing liquid.

  • Dry it with a towel.

Burned-On Food

  • Place the cookware on the stove and pour in enough vinegar to cover the stained bottom of the pot or pan. Add about the same amount of water and 1 tablespoon of baking soda.

  • Turn the stove on and heat the mixture to a boil. Let it boil for 15 minutes.

  • Scrape the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon to make sure the burned-on food is coming up. If not, let it boil a little longer.

  • Pour the solution out in the sink and wash as normal.
