The cat costume is a Halloween mainstay, with variations ranging from the adorable to the atrocious. A sure way to stand apart from the other feline trick-or-treaters and ghoulish party goers is to paint your own cat face. For best results, pick high quality face paint and makeup application and removal supplies.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get FDA approved face paint in colors consistent with the type of cat you want to create, and makeup sponges to apply the cat makeup foundation. Black and orange are popular base colors and work well with white or yellow accents, stripes and spots.

  2. Step 2

Buy a brush and liquid makeup in your accent colors to paint the cat's muzzle and eyes and to highlight other features.

  3. Step 3

Use black liquid eyeliner to outline the nose and eyes and to draw the whiskers. You can also use the eyeliner to add stripes if creating a black and white cat face.

  4. Step 4

Purchase just enough pink makeup to apply to the end of the nose with a small sponge. Face paint and lip liner work equally well.

  5. Step 5

Read all instructions on the products you plan to use and buy the appropriate supplies for face paint and makeup removal. Some face paints, for example, require cold cream for removal and others come off with soap and water.

Tips & Warnings
  • Apply all makeup to a small patch of skin and observe for at least thirty minutes before painting the entire face.
  • Use glitter with caution, especially when painting a child's face. Loose glitter can enter a child's eye, causing significant irritation.
  • Cat eye contact lenses add a realistic, eerie touch to a cat Halloween costume, but pose significant dangers up to and including cornea damage and blindness. Consult a doctor before use of decorative contact lenses.
