Things You'll Need:
- Embroidery floss
- A hard surface with a sturdy clip, like a clipboard or binder
- Cardboard floss winders and a storage box
- Scissors
- Ruler
-
Step 1
Choose embroidery floss colors for the rainbow bracelet: red, orange, yellow, green blue and purple. Measure the wrist with a piece of floss or string. Measure the floss, add two inches and multiply by four.
-
Step 2
Cut equal lengths of floss from each color. Tie the floss together with a single, fat knot. Leave a tail of about one inch above the knot. Clip the knot to the clipboard or binder.
-
Step 3
Separate the colors with red first, then orange, yellow, green blue and purple. Start with red. Hold the strand taut and cross the orange floss over the first and pull it through to create a square knot. Push the knot firmly against the main knot that holds all the strands together.
-
Step 4
Pull the strand of the orange taut and cross the yellow over to make a square knot as above. Push the knot to the top of the work where it is secured by the clip. Keep the floss colors in order throughout the project.
-
Step 5
Continue with each color, knotting the adjacent color around it. Create patterns by varying the number of successive knots tied in each color. Reverse the direction after knotting the purple and repeat. Push each knot firmly against the previous knot to keep the bracelet smooth and flat.
-
Step 6
Continue knotting until there's about 1 1/2 inches of floss. Make a single knot with all the floss strands to finish the bracelet. Tie the bracelet on a friend's wrist.
