Step 1
Make writing in your diet journal a scheduled part of your day. This has to be a priority in your life.
-
Step 2
Write everything you eat or drink in your diet journal. It is a good idea to record any exercise, stress factors, illnesses and your mood in your journal. All of these factors can affect what you eat and drink.
-
Step 3
Tell friends and family about your goal to maintain your diet journal for life. Ask them to hold you accountable for writing in your journal every day.
-
Step 4
Use a small notebook as your diet journal. This will make it easy for you to carry around with you so you can write in it as soon as you eat. You will be less likely to forget about what you ate if you write it down immediately.
-
Step 5
Reward yourself. Decide on a length of time such as a week or month. If you write in your journal every day, treat yourself to a reward. Use bigger rewards for longer periods of time.
-
Step 6
Join a healthy living club. These are online and are usually free. Some of these clubs, like Sparks People, have an online journal. You can usually get email reminders to help you remember to write in your journal.
-
Step 7
Post your journal as a blog. Start a blog and post your diet journal as a blog. You will usually have people subscribe to your blog. Your subscribers will probably let you know that they miss your entries if you forget to post for a while.
