It is a good idea to keep a diet journal for life to maintain a healthy weight and a healthy lifestyle. A diet journal can help your healthcare professional tailor medical regimes to your particular eating and lifestyle habits.

    Make writing in your diet journal a scheduled part of your day. This has to be a priority in your life.

    Write everything you eat or drink in your diet journal. It is a good idea to record any exercise, stress factors, illnesses and your mood in your journal. All of these factors can affect what you eat and drink.

  3. Step 3

    Tell friends and family about your goal to maintain your diet journal for life. Ask them to hold you accountable for writing in your journal every day.

  4. Step 4

    Use a small notebook as your diet journal. This will make it easy for you to carry around with you so you can write in it as soon as you eat. You will be less likely to forget about what you ate if you write it down immediately.
