Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Composition book
  • Cardstock or patterned paper
  • Adhesives
  • Sandpaper
  • Bookbinding tape
  • Brads
  • Ribbon or string
  • Bookplate
  • Rubber stamps
  • Stamping ink
  • Embellishments
  1. Step 1

Measure the front and back covers and trim cardstock or patterned paper to fit the panels. Adhere the pieces with double-stick tape, then use fine-grain sandpaper to smooth the edges and help the paper conform to the rounded corners.

  2. Step 2

Cut a piece of book binding tape and adhere it along the spine to reinforce it and cover the spot where the 2 pieces of patterned paper meet. You can also trim a strip of coordinating paper and adhere that along the spine with double-stick tape.

  3. Step 3

Create a book "closure" by punching a hole and inserting a long brad halfway down the right edge of the front cover. Add another brad in the corresponding spot on the back cover. Knot a length of thin ribbon or string to around the back brad, then wind the other end around the one in front.

  4. Step 4

Attach a metal bookplate to the center or lower-right corner of the composition book's cover to allow the user to add a label describing the contents.

  5. Step 5

Decorate the cover with additional embellishment like ribbon ties, stickers, die cuts, buttons, metal charms and chipboard shapes. Use rubber stamps and ink to add text, images or a subtle background pattern to cardstock.

  6. Step 6

Add a personal touch to the pages. Rubber stamp monograms or decorative images like flowers, leaves, hearts or basic shapes to the bottom-right corners.
