The term "loose slots" refers to slot machines that are lucky; that is, they spew out lots of cash. Some people believe certain slot machines win more often than others do, but slot machine manufacturers insist that each pull of the slot machine arm represents an independent trial, subject to the laws of probability. In case "loose" slots do exist, here are a few tips to try to spot them.

From Quick Guide: Playing Slot Machines
Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick a slot machine with high visibility; one that boasts flashing lights and ringing bells. Casinos want patrons to win big at least occasionally, because if that happens, it encourages other players to spend more money. Management may put its loosest slots near the center of the casino so as many people as possible can witness the big wins.

  2. Step 2

Ask cocktail servers, booth attendants, regular players and locals which machines have paid out the most money lately. Such people are around the machines many hours a day, and they may know which slot machines are the loosest.

  3. Step 3

Look for machines that boast 95 to 98 percent payout rates. Most casino machines only pay 85 to 90 percent back to players, so those machines with higher payout percentages are looser.

  4. Step 4

Consider playing online slot machines instead of traditional slot machines. Since Internet sites have much lower overhead than physical casinos, they can afford to pay out more money to their customers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep in mind that the old adage is true: "the house always wins." Casinos are in business to make money. Most people who play slots lose money; make sure you know your limits and have a preset amount that you are willing to lose wedged firmly in your mind. If you reach that point, stop pulling the slots.
