Desserts are tasty, but for many people focusing on health, calorie-laden treats are out of the question. There is an alternative, however. A sweet tooth can be satisfied with a yogurt parfait without wrecking a healthy diet.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yogurt
  • Fruit
  • Low-fat whipped topping
  1. Step 1

Select a serving dish. Parfaits were such an important dessert at one point in history that they actually had specialty dishes made for them called parfait glasses. Although not necessary, these long clear glasses make an elegant touch to dessert, as people often eat with their eyes before they eat with their mouths. A tall clear drinking glass or champagne flute also works well.

  2. Step 2

Decide on a type of yogurt. There are almost as many types of parfait recipes as there are stars in the sky. It really comes down to personal taste favorites. Vanilla yogurt is always a good base for most recipes as it is sweet but does not tend to overpower other flavors.

  3. Step 3

Choose some fruit. Yogurt parfaits often contain fresh fruits like strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Wash fruits before using and slice any large pieces to bite size.

  4. Step 4

Layer the fruit and yogurt into the parfait glasses and finish with fruit as the final layer. Make it look interesting by using a different fruit in each layer or combine them in a medley. Top off the dessert with a dollop of low-fat whipped topping and a piece of fruit or a sprinkling of nuts or granola.

  5. Step 5

Keep the yogurt parfaits chilled in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
