Gynecological exams are an essential component of maintaining a woman's wellness. Sometimes the exams are uncomfortable and awkward for women. If your annual gynecological exam is quickly approaching, take proper steps to ensure that the exam goes as smoothly as possible.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Find a gynecologist you trust to make the annual exam more comfortable for you. Decide whether you feel more at ease with a male or female physician. Ask a friend for a referral. Meet the doctor before the appointment for a consultation to establish familiarity.
Step2
Know what to expect to eliminate any undue stress caused by surprises. Every annual gynecological exam consists of the same basic components: a pelvic exam, a breast exam and a Pap smear. Ask your doctor what to expect during your pre-exam consultation.
Step3
Keep your medical information handy. Every annual gynecological exam requires you to update paperwork. Know the date of your most recent menstrual cycle, how long it lasted and the degree of your bleeding. Be able to list all medications you currently take.
Step4
Address any of your health concerns with the doctor. Write down any concerns or questions you have before the annual gynecological exam so all of your issues are adequately addressed.
Step5
Relax and breathe deeply. Sometimes this is easier said than done. Take deep breaths while on the exam table. Staying relaxed alleviates discomfort during the pelvic exam and Pap smear. Take comfort in the fact that the exam is a very quick process and only happens once a year.
