The two-handed pass in rugby is used primarily to pass the ball to another player when you are in danger of being tackled. The two-handed pass is effective only if your supporting team member is able to catch the ball and continue the play.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Grasp the ball firmly with both hands. This will give you the most effective ball control.

  2. Step 2

Keep the ball away from your opponent. Your opponent will usually try to tackle you around waist level or lower. Keep the ball above your opponent if he is tackling you at waist level or lower.

  3. Step 3

Pick a supporting team member to pass the ball to. The supporting team member should be clear of any potential tackles.

  4. Step 4

Make eye contact with the supporting team member that you want to pass the ball to. This is a good non-verbal way to let her know to expect the ball to come her way.

  5. Step 5

Hold the ball so that it is almost perpendicular to the ground. Slightly tilt the forward tip of the ball toward the ground.

  6. Step 6

Pass the ball with a firm swift motion using both hands to propel the ball. This will give you good ball control. Pass the ball over the opponent who is tackling you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that you check for opponents who can intercept the ball when you are looking for a supporting team member to pass the ball to.
