Almost everyone starts the school year with brand new school supplies. However, as the year passes, those brand new school supplies start to show wear. While some wear and tear is to be expected, you can help make your school supplies last for a longer period of time if you know how. Here's what to do.

From Quick Guide: Basics of Classroom Supplies
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place your school supplies neatly into your locker or your backpack. If you cram or throw your school supplies into your locker or backpack, you increase the risk that they will tear, bend or break. Placing them neatly will help keep your school supplies in the best condition possible.

  2. Step 2

Purchase plastic folders instead of paper ones. Paper folders are likely to tear, whereas plastic folders are more durable. Plastic folders can cost more money than paper ones, but the investment is well worth it.

  3. Step 3

Be sure to store all important papers and notes inside of your binder or in folders. Do this so the papers don't bend, tear or get lost.

  4. Step 4

Use a pencil pouch to hold all of your pens, pencils and other small supplies. A pencil pouch will keep the supplies safe, help prevent them from breaking and keep them from getting lost.

  5. Step 5

Invest in high quality school supplies. School supplies made with poor workmanship or materials may be cheaper in the beginning, but if they break or tear easily, they may end up costing you more money down the line. Look for name brand school supplies and inspect them for high quality workmanship before purchasing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Conserve your school supplies or reduce the amount that you use. Don't use more than you need for any one assignment or task, and you can make your school supplies last longer while reducing waste.
  • Label school supplies, such as binders, notebooks and folders, in case they get lost.
