Store-bought shower curtain hooks can sometimes be bland and boring. One way to fix that is to add a bit of your own flare with some handmade hooks. It doesn't require a lot of extra materials and won't take you a long time to construct. When you're done, you can show others that shower curtain hooks don't have to be boring to be functional.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shower curtain
  • Shower curtain liner
  • 1/2- to 3/4-inch grosgrain ribbon, around 96 inches long
  • Scissors
  • Shower curtain rod
  1. Step 1

Obtain a shower curtain that you want to hang in your bathroom. If you need a vinyl shower curtain liner, make sure you have this as well. You should mount both of these together.

  2. Step 2

Buy 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch grosgrain ribbon. Each shower curtain hook hole requires 8 inches of ribbon and most curtains have 12 holes.

  3. Step 3

Cut the ribbon into 8-inch pieces if you purchased the ribbon in yard increments. Usually when you buy ribbon at a fabric store, the store sells it to you by the yard, which is 36 inches.

  4. Step 4

Thread each piece of ribbon through the shower curtain hook hole, also called the grommet. Hold the shower curtain and your handmade hooks up to the shower curtain rod. Tie the ribbon to the rod, ensuring the curtain is even.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your bathroom has a theme, such as animals if it's a kids' bathroom, purchase ribbon with similar animals on it. That way the shower curtain hooks can complement the rest of the room.
  • Double check the number of holes your shower curtain has before purchasing the ribbon. If you underestimate, you run the risk of the store running out of your selected ribbon by the time you return.
