Duct tape was born during World War II. It's long been put to practical use, repairing ducts, windows, cars and pretty much anything that breaks. Recently, though, there's been a more creative turn. It's gone from being an aid to the war effort to a craft phenomenon. People are making entire outfits out of nothing but duct tape, and to do this, they first need duct tape fabric.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Determine the size of your project. You can make your duct tape fabric any size, but the longer the strips are, the harder they are to work with.
Step2
Cut or tear a strip of duct tape the desired length and place it sticky side up on a flat surface. Cut or tear the next strip and place it next to the first. Overlap the strips by a little over 1/2 inch.
Step3
Continue, as in the last step, until your fabric base is the desired width.
Step4
Tear or cut a strip to match the width of the completed fabric base. Place it perpendicular to the strips on the first layer, lining up the edges. Continue with further strips, overlapping as in Step 2, until you reach the length of the fabric base.
Step5
Trim the edges if necessary.
Step6
Make any additional pieces of duct tape fabric you may need for your project.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add variation and creativity to your project by using different colors of duct tape. In some areas, you can even find camouflaged duct tape to incorporate into your craft.
