Things You'll Need:
- Candles
- Fabric paint
- White glue
- Glitter
- Stickers
-
Step 1
Purchase plain candles in an assortment of shapes, sizes and colors. White, green and red are the most popular when you are decorating them for Christmas. If giving as gifts another nice touch is to choose candles in the recipients favorite color or colors that match their decor.
-
Step 2
Plan your design in advance. You might want to sketch it on a piece of paper first to practice.
-
Step 3
Use fabric paint to embelish and decorate the outside of the candle. Be creative. If making them for Christmas make snowflakes, snowmen, Christmas trees, presents and Santa Claus. Other ideas for decorative candles include flowers, stars, sun and moon.
-
Step 4
Try glue with glitter instead of, or in addition to, the fabric paint. Draw the design that you want with a white craft glue and then sprinkle glitter over the glue. Allow it to dry and then shake off any loose glitter.
-
Step 5
Stick colorful seasonal stickers onto the sides of the candles and then dip the candles in clear wax to seal the stickers in place as an alternative method of making decorative candles. It is best to put the stickers towards the middle and bottom of the candle because you can not burn the candles below the level of the stickers.
