How to Go to a Religious College Not Being of That Religion

Some religious colleges accept students with different religious beliefs and others turn away students with different religious beliefs. Attending a college that has a religious affiliation when you are a different religion can be a challenge, but it is possible.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Learn about the basic beliefs of the religion. If there are some beliefs that truly offend you, consider searching for a college better suited to you.
Step2
Apply for admission into the college. Some religious colleges have a question about your religion. Remember to be truthful on your application.
Step3
Respect the beliefs of the religion. You agreed to be respectful of the religion when you chose to attend the college. If you have to go to religious services, take the time to think of your own religion or use the service as an opportunity to learn more about that religion's beliefs.
Step4
Express your religious beliefs only when it is appropriate. You can initiate an open discussion on religious differences if you feel the need to talk about your religion.
Step5
Focus on your school work if you find it difficult to associate with other students. Your education should be your first priority.
Step6
Join activities that are free from religious affiliation if you want to meet other students. Keep in mind that students may pray or hold impromptu religious services during any school sponsored activity.
Step7
Seek friends off campus. Consider joining a local house of worship for your religion to meet other people your age who share your beliefs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never criticize or demean anyone's religion. Doing so could get you kicked out of school and possibly labeled as someone who discriminates against those who are a different religion.
