How to Talk Mom Into Allowing Colored Hair

Coloring your hair is all the rage now--anything from the most natural shades of blonde or black to the most outrageous neon shades can help you make a statement with your hair. If you want to color your hair without family friction, get your mom's permission first. If she says no the first time, you still might be able to talk her into it.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Research dyes and colors. If you want a drastic color like pink, blue or purple, look for a temporary dye that washes out. There's a chance you might not like it, either. When it washes out, you can always do it again.

  2. Step 2

Enlighten your mom on how you won't use a permanent dye. If she knows it will only last a few days or weeks, she might open up to the idea.

  3. Step 3

Choose a normal hair color instead of pink, blue or some other unnatural hair color. She may be more willing to let you dye your hair if you're going to do a natural color instead of something outrageous.

  4. Step 4

Agree to have it done professionally no matter what color you choose instead of doing it yourself. This can make your mom feel better, and you'll probably be happier with the results--especially since salons offer both natural and unnatural colors.

  5. Step 5

Visit a hair salon with your mom and let them tell her about hair coloring. They can tell her how long it will last and answer any other questions she may have before you get your hair colored.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remind your mom that it's hair and it grows out.
  • Be willing to compromise with your mom on color and kind of dye. If you're stubborn or rude about it, your mom may just decide not to let you color your hair.
