Step1
Plan the surprise out. If you need a cover story about the surprise, think about it beforehand. Lay out all the details about the surprise in your mind before making all of the arrangements.

Think outside the box. If you really want to surprise someone, get creative with her gift or party. For example, instead of giving her the same flowers and chocolate for Valentine's Day that you give her every year, book a spa retreat.
Step3
Hold your tongue. The person that plans the surprise is the one that often ruins it. Don't offer the person any hints about his surprise and make sure that you don't slip about it beforehand.
Step4
Tell everyone to stay quiet about it. Most people don't automatically assume that a party or gift is a surprise. Give them specific instructions to keep the info confidential. If it is a party, print in bold letters that it's a surprise celebration.
