How to Film Someone Getting Punched
Fights and punches are included in a lot of movies. It is important to remember that these fights and punches are in a controlled environment. The cast and crew film the punch in a way that gives the illusion of an actual punch when, in fact, the punch is fake.

1
Watch old movies with fight scenes to get an idea of how to fake a punch. Older movies lack the special effects of newer movies so you can see the actual sequence used to fake a punch.
-
2
Plan the punch scene. If possible, have a professional choreograph the scene for you so that you can achieve the most realistic looking punch possible. You want the punch to be dramatic enough to be believable.

-
3
Rehearse the punch before you try to film it. When you're on the receiving end of a punch, it is painful. Your actor should only appear when it's time to punch.
-
4
Film the punch from several angles and distances. Watch each take to find the most realistic looking punch for your movie.
-
5
Add sound effects to the punch. You can make these yourself or you can find recordings of punches. Find a few different sounds and pick the one best suited to your punch.
-
6
Consider layering the sound of the punch scene in your film. Layering sound can make the punch more believable by adding extra sound effects that are relevant to the rest of the scene.
