How to Ask Parents to Allow Dreadlocks

Dreadlocks, those long ropes of hair, twisted into narrow tight spirals, create longing in kids and scorn in their parents. When you're dying to don the hairstyle that started the grunge look, convincing your parents may be harder than twisting and ripping your locks. Be creative in your presentation for the best chance of winning permission to wear dreadlocks.

Instructions

1. Approach your parents when they are in good moods. At dinnertime, after you've spent the day helping around the house is recommended.

2. Cut out a couple of photos of famous dreadlock wearers who have successfully contributed to society. If your parents appreciate good music, make sure you hang a poster of Bob Marley on your wall.

3. Convert to the Rastafarian movement and explain to your parents that the Bible encourages dreadlocks since it claims that Sampson wore "seven locks of hair" and he was a Nazarene.

4. Introduce your parents to a friend that already has dreadlocks. Make sure you choose someone who gets good grades and excels in school. In addition, if he has a job, that's a plus. Demonstrating that people who wear dreadlocks can be productive members of society may encourage you parents to allow you to join their ranks.

5. Show your parents how easy it is to keep dreadlocks clean and tidy. Many parents remember the stories of dreadlocks that never saw a bottle of shampoo. Explain how contemporary dreadlocks can be just as clean as their hairstyle.

6. Save your money and have temporary dreadlocks attached by your local hairstylist to show your parent's how handsome you are when sporting a head full of spirals.

7. Respect your parent's decision no matter what it is. If they agree, great, start growing and ripping your hair into dreads. If they forbid it-let it go for now. You can always bring it up again next month after you bring home a gradecard full of As.
