How to Deal With a Bad Grade

Sometimes you may have no idea that you're getting a bad grade. You thought you were doing OK, and then you get your report card and it tells a whole different story. The way you deal with a bad grade affects how well you do the next semester.

Instructions

    • 1

Try not to panic. When you first see a bad grade, you may go into panic mode. Tell your parents right away, so that you're not stressing about their reaction. Let them know that you plan to meet with your teacher to figure out a way to improve in her class.

    • 2

Speak with your teacher. Develop strategies on how to perform better in his class. He can point out ways to work on improving in the future.

    • 3

Ask about extra credit. Check with your teacher to see if you can do extra work in order to bring up a bad grade.

    • 4

Develop better study habits. If you did poorly in a class, set time each night to work on that subject. Give yourself plenty of time to finish your homework and class projects as well.

    • 5

Get extra help. If you're really struggling in a class, then sign up with a tutor. Check into programs at Sylvan Learning Center or online tutoring at Tutor Vista.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't stress about colleges seeing a bad grade on your transcript. They'll still consider you for admission if you show improvement over the course of the year.
