How to Create a Simple Quiz in Moodle

Moodle is open-source software used by teachers and students for collaborative learning. A school teacher or administrator can download Moodle to their own website and from there provide all sorts of class activities. One of the easiest things to do is create a simple quiz using Moodle. Then all you need to do is have your students log on to take the quiz. Moodle scores the quiz for you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

1. Log in to your Moodle account at your school. Click on the class that you wish to create the quiz for. Find the "Turn Editing On" button. It's in the upper right corner of the screen. Click on it.
2. Locate the section or week where you wish to insert the quiz. Click on "Add an Activity". From the menu choose "Quiz." A dialog box asks you to name the quiz. Also give the quiz a brief description.
3. Assign the quiz opening and closing dates from the dialog box as well. You can specify a time limit on the quiz at this time. You should also indicate what type of quiz you are creating. You have 11 question types from which to create your quiz. When you have set all the options for the quiz, click "Save Changes."
4. Input your first question into the quiz. You need to identify each question with an easy-to-remember name. The students do not see these identifiers. After you type in the question, enter the correct answer. If it is a multiple-choice question, input other options as well. Save the changes by clicking "Save Changes."
5. Continue entering questions into the quiz. When all the questions are in Moodle, select the questions for the final quiz by putting a check mark next to them. Then click on the "Add to Quiz" button.
6. Proofread your quiz. Click on the "Preview" tab at the top of the screen. Your quiz is now viewable. You can take the quiz yourself at this point to make sure the answers are all correct. If the quiz is written as you want it, announce it to your students and let them take the quiz.

• You may import questions from a text file if you don't want to type them into Moodle.
