Find the AOL Instant Messenger 4.7 Easter Egg

  1. Step 1

Find an older version of AOL Instant Messenger. Version 4.7 Beta is reported to have the Easter egg, but older versions may have it too.

  2. Step 2

Install AOL Instant Messenger. When it finishes installing, click the Start button. Click "Programs," then "AOL Instant Messenger." The sign-on screen will appear.

  3. Step 3

Click in the top left corner of the blue logo - the one with the running man on it. Hold down the mouse and drag it to the right. You should see a picture of the AOL Instant Messenger development team appear. If it doesn't appear, try viewing the AOL Instant Messenger DLL files with a resource viewing tool, like Resource Hacker.

  4. Step 4

Download and install Resource Hacker. Open Resource Hacker. Click "File" and choose "Open." Navigate to "Program Files" and "AIM."

  5. Step 5

Select "AimRes.dll." Click on the plus sign next to GIFDATA. Expand the plus sign next to 111. Click on 1033 to see the developers' photograph. Exit Resource Hacker without saving.

  6. Find AOL Instant Messenger's SmarterChild

  7. Step 1

Open AOL Instant Messenger. Click "List Setup" and "Add Buddy." For the buddy's name, type in "SmarterChild."

  8. Step 2

Click the "Online" tab. Click on "SmarterChild," and click the icon to send an instant message.

  9. Step 3

Type "home" in the message block and click "send." SmarterChild will greet you and ask questions. You can then use SmarterChild to get information about sports, movies or weather. SmarterChild has an online library that includes geographical information and an encyclopedia, as well as tools and games.
